Javier Bello- Team GB Athlete visits Curwen Primary
On the 11th January, our year 6 children at Curwen got a visit from British Beach Volleyball player Javier Bello. Javier Bello and twin brother Joaquin have been making history from an early age and at Birmingham 2022 they continued that trend, winning Commonwealth Games bronze - a first in Team England's history. The pair were schooled in the sport by father Luis, a former pro, from the age of six and made London home as ten-year-olds.They won gold at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2017 and a year later finished fifth at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, both unprecedented performances for England. The children were truly inspired and engaged in what Javier had to say about his personal experience within the world of beach volleyball. The children enjoyed viewing his videos, pictures and getting to ask him questions about his life. The MASt PE children thoroughly benefited from the volleyball session Javier put on, teaching them how to volley, dig and spike the ball. The key message that Javier wanted to leave the children with was "Find a sport you love and carry on doing it for the rest of your life".
