Autumn 2 Update

In Autumn 2, year 4 has continued exploring the history of the Romans and their impact on our lives. How would our lives be nowadays if it wasn’t for the Romans! After all our learning and as a conclusion to the Romans topic, Year 4 put a great deal of effort into a performance for their parents where they were able to showcase everything they have been learning. A dancing battle, a dramatization of the beginnings of Roma, Boudicca’s powerful rallying speech and an exposition of Roman mosaics designed and created by them. They put out all the stops to impress parents!

Year 4 has been looking at stories with dilemmas and strengthened their reading skills around the book Wonder. They have been working really hard to develop their descriptive language and use different literary devices in writing. Students explored what it is like to go to a fairground to be able to describe the setting for their stories. They immersed themselves completely with a full hands-on experience where they used their senses to understand emotions, feelings and enjoy the sights and hear the noises. This gave them the opportunity to write a story about Jack’s dilemma which included plenty of detail to entice the reader.

In this half term, Year 4 has been learning all about fractions. They began with lessons about understanding what fractions are, reading fractions and representing them. They were able to make great strides with this and soon moved on to solving operations. The children particularly enjoyed exploring equivalent fractions using different resources. As a result, they really understood the concept and this facilitated more challenging questions and their reasoning. Great job!
