Autumn 2 Update
Autumn 2 has been an eventful term for Year 6 with a varied body of work completed. In Science, the children explored all things to do with electricity, with the topic culminating with our pupils designing and making their own board games. During RE sessions, the children learned about how death is celebrated in different religions and how people learn to deal with death. This linked to our Remembrance Day assembly which was performed to commemorate those people who served in World War I, World War II, and subsequent wars since 1945. Through art, drama, music and poetry, Year 6 remembered those soldiers, many whom gave their lives and fought for their country during the Great War. As part of Kindness Week, our pupils looked at the effects of bullying and social media; they acted out and discussed different scenarios that will help them to use the internet and social media more safely.
In literacy, Year 6 continued their work on William Shakespeare, using his classic plays as inspiration to write their own narrative stories. These ranged from alternative endings to Romeo and Juliet to reworking’s of the Tempest. They used their editorial skills to improve their writing, applying the skills they acquired in reading and SPAG sessions.
As well as, continuing their work on the properties of number, Year 6 has focussed on fractions, decimals and percentages in maths. They were given opportunities to apply their knowledge in different contexts but also see how their maths skills can be used in real life situations e.g. savings in the Black Friday sales.
