International Mother Language Day
February 21st was International Mother Language Day. This is celebrated every year with the purpose of raising awareness of language, cultural diversity and multilingualism around the world.
As Curwen has more than 60 different languages that are spoken amongst children, families and staff, we invited parents and carers to come along and contribute to the celebration of our multilingualism. Throughout the entire week, from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd February, mostly during story time, parents and carers joined their children’s classes and shared traditional stories, poems, songs, facts and pieces of culture, greetings or other vocabulary in person or by sending videos which we played in the classrooms.
We are all very grateful for these contributions as they represent a first-hand account of the richness of language and culture within our multilingual community.
Thank you all for your support with this!
