Curwen’s Eco-Champions have been busy improving the local area. They teamed up with Newham Council to go litter picking on the Greenway as a part of The Great British Spring Clean. Parents and Carers were invited to join in, bringing the team to a total of 32 people! This made the experience even more special for some children: Layla in Year 2 said, “I really loved having my family with me because it made it extra fun!”  

The community event was part of the Eco-Champions plan to become a Green Flag School and make Curwen and Newham a greener place. Everyone felt proud to be contributing to our local community in such a positive way. Lucas in Year 2 said of the event, “I liked picking up the litter; it was fun and it was a good thing to do to help save the environment.” Samuel in Year 5 echoed this: “It felt really good to know that we were helping the environment and making everything better. It’s really important to look after the planet.”

It was a very satisfying afternoon for everyone involve, with eight bags being filled with litter. Many members of the local community stopped to chat with the group and thank the children for improving the area. Syed Haque from Newham Council was very impressed with the Eco-Champions. He said of the team, “It’s great to see young people make a difference in our area. The children in Newham really care about the environment they live in.”
