Curwen Primary School

Autumn 1 Update

Geography

What a busy Autumn Term we have had in year 1. In Topic we have been learning about The Local Area. We visited Epping Forest to identify human and physical features and we explored the grounds using maps. We also visited King Henry’s hunting Lodge which h is now known as Queen Elizabeth’s hunting lodge.

Literacy

In Literacy we have been writing non-chronological reports. We learnt about the features of a non-chronological report and what their purpose is. To prepare our report we looked at the different parts of the school and wrote about what Curwen Primary School has to offer.

Maths

In maths we have been partitioning 2 digit numbers. It is important for us to show how we get our answers by showing it practically using cups. We remembered that 10 cups has the same value as 1 ty or ten. We learnt that 10 cups and 10 blocks have the same value, different appearance.

Topic

In Topic we have been learning about The Local Area. We visited Epping Forest to identify human and physical features and we explored the grounds using maps. We also visited King Henry’s hunting Lodge which is now known as Queen Elizabeth’s hunting lodge. We learnt about when the Hunting Lodge was built and how Kings and Queens had banquets in the past. We also got a chance to dress up in clothes from the past. During the trip we explored the forest looking for different types of trees and animals. We used maps to locate Connaught waters and we also left a trail for the other class to track so they would not get lost.
