Autumn 1 Update

This term year 6 have been learning all about the life and work of William Shakespeare, exploring his varied body of work and learning about his life story. As well as this, they have been learning about mountains and volcanos, using their mapping skills to locate these around the world. The children have been able to use 4 and 6 figure grid references as well as learning how mountains are formed.  Children have been able to articulate their learning to their peers and teachers.

 

Literacy 
In Literacy, the children visited the Southbank to compile research for their non-chronological reports. They were able to identify and discuss a range of London’s iconic landmarks, and produced a persuasive non-chronological report. The children were also able to compile research about ‘The Bard’ and use this to produce excellent biographies charting his childhood, background, family life and his success career as a playwright and poet. The children have used a range of reading skills to aid with their comprehension of Shakespeare’s plays as well as delving deeper into his life story. As well as writing, there has been a strong focus on Reading Skills, particularly learning new vocabulary.

Maths

In maths this term, year 6 have been focusing on property of number. This has included: factors, multiples, prime numbers, square numbers and sequences. In addition to property of number, the children have recapped and developed their skills in using the 4 operations (multiplication, division, addition and subtraction). Problem solving has been a focus in maths, giving the children to develop their resilience.
