Curwen Primary School

Autumn 1 Update

In topic we have been learning about the Great Fire of London. We have developed History skills such as ordering events chronologically, analysing sources of information, and comparing the past with the present. We have already been on two trips! First we went on a London city walk to visit London Bridge,  St. Paul’s Cathedral , Pudding Lane and Monument . More recently we visited Museum of London to look at lots of different sources (artefacts, models, videos) relating to the fire. We really enjoyed recording what we saw in our sketchbooks which we took with us on both trips. We have also been doing lots of art work using collage to represent what we have learnt in History.

In Literacy we have been continuing to work through the RML and Literacy programmes. We also worked hard to produce a non-chronological report about Curwen Primary School. We developed our descriptive language and grouped our ideas into paragraphs.

In Maths we have been learning to add and subtract using column method, use different methods to add and take away, understand fractions, and tell the time to the nearest fifteen minutes. We really enjoyed making our own clocks and using them in class to represent different times. We also enjoyed parents’ morning where we got to try out lots of different problem solving activities- we stayed resilient when trying to solve the different problems!
