Curwen Primary School

Summer 1

Firstly, I would like to say, huge CONGRATULATIONS to year 6 for a successful SATs week. The children worked brilliantly throughout the week, as well as in the lead up to the assessments. We are so proud of you! As well as getting ready for the assessments, year 6 have been learning about Mountains in their Geography lessons. They had the opportunity to see and learn about Curwen’s ducklings – they even stroked them! In PSHE, the children have been learning about gangs and grooming, to help them to be prepared for life as they get older.

Literacy

In Literacy, we have been focusing on reading skills in order to get ready for SATs. The children were exposed to a range of different texts, from narratives to poems to ensure that they were comfortable with a range of texts. We also focused on our grammar in the run up to the assessments. The children are looking forward to focusing more on reading for pleasure now that the tests are over.

Maths

In maths, we have looked at a range of new skills, as well as revisiting old skills. The children have looked at ratio and proportion, graphs and scales and coordinates. In arithmetic, they consolidated their understanding of fractions, percentages and the four operations. The children are looking forward to learning maths in interesting and creative ways now that they have done their SATs.
